Harry Robert Houston, Sr

Houston East Bend- Mr. Harry Robert Houston, Sr., 85, of East Bend, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017. He was born in Tazewell County, Virginia on June 3, 1932 to the late Joseph Manan and Emily Walk Houston. Mr. Houston was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a truck driver for Pilot Freight Lines for 30 years. Mr. Houston was a veteran of the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict and he loved to play his guitar and sing. Mr. Houston attended Enon Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Harry Houston, Jr., brothers;  Buddy Houston, Jerry Houston, Joe Houston, and Mack Houston, and a sister, Ethel Rush. Surviving are his wife, Brenda Fox Houston, two sons, Joe Houston and Brian (Tara) Houston, two sisters, Jane Dawson and Audrey Swank,  sisters-in-law, Doris Houston and Teresa Houston, one brother, John (Sharon) Houston, four grandchildren, Kimberly (Thomas) Grier, Emily Houston, Hannah Houston, and Brandon Houston, and many nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 2:00pm at Gentry Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Casstevens officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 Sunday at Gentry Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Enon Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites conducted by Yadkin V.F.W. Post 10346 and the NC National Honor Guard.  The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Yadkin Nursing Center for the care given to Mr. Houston.
