Ila Mae Bryant Childress, age 90, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020. She was born on October 30, 1929 in Yadkin County to the late “W.S.” Wiseman Sanford Bryant and Samantha Jane Adams Bryant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Numie Richard Childress; daughters, Carol Hamm, Gladys Nowlen, Glenda Sidden; grandson, Stephen Richard Lawing; brother, Billy Gray Bryant; sisters, Dorothy Spicer, Lillian Finney, Pearl Renegar; son-in-law Gary Cagle. She is survived by her children, Phyllis Lawing, Dorothy Cagle, Anita (Joseph) Messick; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law, Margie Bryant and sons-in-law, Charlie Hamm, and Thomas Sidden. Mrs. Childress loved flowers, gardening, listening to music, especially George Jones, and she was a world-famous biscuit maker, having made biscuits at Hardee’s of Yadkinville for over eighteen years. Her funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 in the Gentry Family Chapel with Rev. George Evans officiating.
