Mr. Ivan Benarr Poplin, 82, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023. He was born February 2, 1941 in Wilkes County to the late “Jack” and Susie Tharpe Poplin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Ann Eller Poplin and a brother, Brent Poplin. Mr. Poplin is survived by his children Rodney (Tina) Poplin, Jill (Ron) Dickerson, Brooke (Michael) Carter; grandchildren Brittany (Thomas) Palmer, Andrew (Rachel) Poplin, Jack (Jamie) Dickerson, Kendall Dickerson, Destinee (Michael L.) Carter, Ethyn Carter; great-grandchildren, Jackson Palmer, Sawyer Palmer, Ellie Carter; his sisters, Tommie (Bobby) Ford, Linda (Sam) Poplin; brothers, Sandy (Rosann) Poplin, Coy Poplin, Jeff (Beth) Poplin; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Poplin was a longtime member of Swan Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and Sunday school teacher for many years. He retired from Abitibi, after retirement he loved driving for Cape Fear. He was an avid wood maker, he especially enjoyed building furniture, serving trays, sewing trays, and small race cars for his kids and grandkids. Ivan also had a great admiration for classic cars and was known for his quick wit. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM at Swan Creek Baptist Church, Sunday, December 31, 2023. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM at the church with Rodney Poplin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse/Donor Ministries, P.O. Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Jonesville is serving the Poplin family.
