Hamptonville Jack McGee Gallimore passed away peacefully on December 5, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after a short acute illness. He was born on September 14, 1941 in New Jersey. He served in the US Air Force, mostly in Germany and Turkey. After his military service he joined the space program in the 60ʼs and flew on a NASA instrumented aircraft outfitted as a Gemini Spacecraft reporting to the World Wide Ground Tracking Network, including Houston Flight Control. In 1969 he was on the Apollo 11 Launch Team that landed Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon on July 22, 1969. He later worked as a factory automation specialist around the world. He was the cofounder of American Image Press in 1984. He is survived by his loving family Vonda, grandson George Bryant and wife Sarah Blackburn and George D. Blackburn. Also survived by the Henry Hemric family, the Swaim family and his dearly beloved ʻHemric Mountaineersʼ family. His sisters are Sally Levine and Helen Cook, mothers of numerous loving nieces and nephews. He leaves an array of special friends from all walks of life around the world whom he cherished greatly. A celebration of life service with Military Honors will be held on December 9, 2019 at Gentry Family Services in Jonesville at 3:00 pm. Visitation begins at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Hemric Family Memorial Field on Hemric Mountain. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, Charity for Veterans or the Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville is serving the Gallimore family.
