Jack Turner York

January 12, 1932 — November 5, 2024

Mr. Jack Turner York, 92, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024. He was born on January 12, 1932 in Iredell County to Jay Burette York and Mary Viola Coe York. He was the oldest of their seven children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Creed York, who he celebrated 56.5 years of marriage with before she passed away in 2009; sisters, Mary Juanita Hodges, Lelia Jeanettie York, and Wanda (Wayne) Fortner; and brothers, John York, Franklin York, and Dwight (Linda) York. Jack was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He missed his wife, Gladys, greatly in the years after she passed. Family was enormously important to him throughout his life. Jack was a member of Forbush Baptist Church. He accepted Jesus later in life and said he could look back and see where he was cared for and protected by Jesus from the early days of his life. Jack enjoyed the visits and calls over the years from the pastor and church members. His neighbors, Ramona and William Trivette, were always kind and helpful to him. The family is grateful for the many ways they showed Christian love and grace to Jack and Gladys. Jack was a veteran of the Korean War. He joined the United States Army as a teen and the years he served in the Army impacted his entire life. He was proud to have served his country. Jack was a member of the Yadkin VFW and the Old Town Masonic Lodge. He retired from Western Electric/ Lucent in 1988, and then stayed busy during retirement with Jack York Auto Sales for over 25 years. During his Auto Sales years he enjoyed many trips to the car sales with Eddie Hobson, who has been a great friend to him. The family is grateful for Eddie’s friendship and help. Mr. York is survived by a daughter, Jackie (Steven) McCarn; grandchildren, Matthew (Karen) McCarn and Allison (Alessio) Deiana; great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Jasper; brother-in-law, Leonard Hodges; sister-in-law, Earlene Ware; and several nieces and nephews. Jack enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their important events throughout the years. He was proud of their accomplishments and if you spent any amount of time with him you would certainly know that because he was quite the talker. His two great-grandchildren gave him great joy. He showed everyone who visited their pictures and talked about how much he loved these two little children. Jack will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the special privilege to know and love him. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Forbush Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors presented by the Yadkin VFW and the North Carolina Army. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Yadkin Nursing and Liberty Hospice for the excellent care and many kindnesses shown to Mr. York during his declining health. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Forbush Baptist Church, 3917 E Old US 421 Hwy, Yadkinville, NC 27055. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the York family.
