James "Buster" Everette

December 27, 1949 — March 30, 2021

In the early morning hours of March 30, 2021, Heaven celebrated the homecoming of James Santford “Buster” Everette. He now will suffer no more. He was born December 27, 1949 in Surry County to the late Charles and Colleen Everette. He graduated in the first class of Starmount High School of 1969. As years passed, he would meet the love of his life, Lu’gene Hobson. They married in 1977 and celebrated 43 years together. The reason Buster fought to live daily was because of their son, Lance Everette. Buster was a devoted and proud father. He cherished his family! The family was blessed in 2011 when Lance married Kayla and now Buster had a daughter too! In 2019 Buster became “Pa” with the miraculous birth of Stockton James Everette. Throughout Buster’s life he was active in sports and loved playing and coaching. He was talented working with children and young adults, he loved to watch them grow and excel. Buster coached little league baseball in Boonville and Jonesville, coached AAU girl’s basketball 1985-1994, head varsity girls coach at Bishop McGuinness High School from 1991 – 1996, and coached AAU boys from 1997 – 1998. From 1998 – 2020 Buster was never far from a ballfield or court. He was a USSSA official umpire, then he hosted girls fastpitch softball tournaments, and still remained involved with basketball program at Forbush High School. The family left with awesome memories include Lu’gene (wife of 43 years); son, Lance (Kayla) Everette; and grandson, Stockton James Everette. His loving mother-in-law, Shirley Holsclaw; brother and sister-in-law, Rodney (Cindy) Hobson who were so very special; father-in-law, Archie Hobson. As a “second chance Christian” Buster would want everyone to know it’s never too late to turn your life over to God. He loved his church and especially Temple’s choir! He leaves many good friendships behind to remember his sense of humor, love for the Tarheels and his “short stories”. There will be public viewing at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville on Friday, April 2, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM. A celebration service will be held at Temple Baptist Church in Mt. Airy on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 1:00 PM. Open visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM prior to the service on Saturday. The church will be able to maintain social distance, but please wear your mask. Burial will follow at Charity Baptist Church in Boonville with a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to “Buster Everette” Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o First Citizens Bank, 105 E. Main Street, Boonville, NC 27011.
