James Hill

Yadkinville James “Pap” Hill, 93, gained his heavenly wings on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. He was born on January 12, 1928 in Finchburg, Alabama to Mr. Charlie and Sarah Jane Tunstall. He was member of Tabernacle United Church of Christ in Yadkinville, NC where he served as a Deacon and an adult Sunday School Teacher until he was 85 years old. Lovingly known as Deacon Hill he also served in the ministry by mowing the church lawn and cleaning the church until he was 89-years old. Pap was employed at the Yadkin Lumber Plant for 35 years. His employers and coworkers speak highly of him and his dedicated work ethic. Pap was committed and a dedicated man of God. He loved reading and teaching God’s Word. Wow, could he teach that Word! He was a craftsman and carpenter by trade and loved fixing, building, and creating new things. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Bernice Hill, his mother, and father, 10 siblings, seven children: James Edward, Faye Elaine, Harriet Elizabeth, Bernice Roberta, Bobby Ray, and Betty L. Frost, John Ed Anthony and two sister-in laws, Willie Mae Harding and Devon “Bonnie” Viola Short. Surviving relatives are as followers: his three daughters, Debra Williams, Sharon Williams, and Patricia Hymes (Harold Hymes), son-in-law William “ Buster” Frost, one surviving sibling Geraldine (Peter) Williams of Pensacola, Florida. Two sister -in-laws, Irene Tunstall of Foley, Alabama, and Robin L. Harding of Yadkinville, NC. A niece Maytha Clark of Pensacola Florida. Additionally, he is survived by a host of grandchildren (he lovingly called, “That Set”), great-grandchildren, several other nieces and nephews. Pap was a phenomenal man of God, a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. A favorite saying of his was, “Hold’em in the Road”. We would like to say, “HOLD”EM IN THE ROAD, Pap!” until we meet again our dear sweet Pap! We love you and we will miss you dearly. We thank God that He brought you into our lives. Pap will lie in state on Wednesday May 5, 2021 from 12 noon to 5pm and on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 11am to 3pm at the Gentry Funeral Chapel (5108 US 601 HWY, Yadkinville, NC 27055). His committal service will be conducted Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 9:30AM-10:00AM at Gentry Funeral Chapel in Yadkinville with Rev. Marvin Harper officiating.
