James "Bobby" Hobson

Hobson Boonville – James Robertson “Bobby” Hobson, 91, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017. He was born January 3, 1926 in Yadkin County to the late Alvis Bonson Hobson and Alice Moore Hobson.  Bobby retired as an Insurance Agent and a Dairy and Tobacco Farmer.  He was a member of Boonville Baptist Church for over 60 years and had served as a church trustee.  Bobby served as a member on several boards: National Corn Growers Association, USDA Tobacco Marketing Association, Hugh Chatham Hospital Foundation, Boonville Lion’s Club, American Jersey Cattle Club, N.C. Grange Mutual Insurance Company, and was a member of N.C. Grange for over 60 years.  He grew up on his family farm in the Boonville community and lived there all his life.  He enjoyed serving his community and having lively political discussions.   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Anita Reece, Eloise Alexander, Sadie Smitherman; brothers, Fred Hobson, George Hobson, Frank Hobson, Joe Hobson, Alvis Hobson, Curtis Hobson, and Wade Hobson.  Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Ethel Badgett Hobson; children, James “Jim” (Susan) Hobson of High Point, Sharon (Woody) Washam of Cornelius, Donna (John) Willingham of Bermuda Run; several nieces and nephews.  His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Boonville Baptist Church by the Rev. John Brown.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the Boonville Baptist Life Center.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Boonville Baptist Church, 201 Baptist Church Road, Boonville, NC  27011.  Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Hobson family.
