Brown

East Bend-  Mr. James Lee “Jimmy” Brown, 79, went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.  Jimmy was born November 30, 1938 in Yadkin County to the late Noah James and Sarah Ruby Long Brown.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Bonnie Mae Carter Brown, and his grandson, Taran Malachi Vogts.  Jimmy graduated from Boonville High School Class of 1957, and proudly served as an M.P. in Germany for the US Army from 1961-1963.  He worked at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for 35 years before retiring.  Jimmy was a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Friends Meeting where he served the church in many capacities through the years, including Sunday School Teacher and Elder.  He also served in numerous roles in the North Carolina Yearly Meeting of Friends.  Jimmy spent countless hours in his shop on projects ranging from woodworking to small engine repair.  He loved fishing at the lake and the coast, and if he told a fish tale you could be sure that it was true.  Jimmy loved his family and friends, and rarely passed up an opportunity to fellowship over a good meal.  Jimmy and Bonnie raised 3 children, Jill (Charlie “Chuck”) Crews, Jason C. (Angie) Brown, and Jan (Chris) Vogts.  One of Jimmy’s greatest joys in life was time spent with his grandchildren, Jacob and Samuel Crews, Isaac , Elijah, Ana, Rachel, and Judah Brown, and Taran and Eilonwy Vogts.  Also surviving are his sister, Mary Lou Brown (Tony) Calloway; several special brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.  His funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday, March 30, 2018 at Mt. Carmel Friends Meeting by Rev. Jeff Farmer.   He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites by the NC National Guard Memorial Honor Guard.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel Friends Meeting, Mt. Carmel Church Road, East Bend, NC  27018.  Online condolences may be made to www.gentryfuneralservice.com
