James Sidney Swaim

State Road Mr. James Sidney Swaim, 77, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Swaim was born December 27, 1942 in Yadkin County to the late Clayton Bynum and Rema Sale Swaim. He faithfully attended Mining Ridge Baptist Church and loved his pastor Terry Longworth. Mr. Swaim retired from NCDOT after 32 years of service with the maintenance dept. After retirement, he worked at Walmart for 7 ½ years. He was a devoted Christian and did lawn maintenance for his church for 12 years. He spent countless hours mowing the grounds and keeping up the cemetery. Mr. Swaim was a volunteer fireman for State Road Fire Dept. for 20 years until he became medically unable to continue. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to his family and was a man of integrity. Mr. Swaim led his family in strong Christian beliefs and inspired hard work and strong family values. In addition to his parents, Mr. Swaim was preceded in death by brother, Tommy Swaim; and a nephew, Eric Swaim. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Linda Brewer Swaim; children, Rebecca (Bernie) Bryant and Jayme (Leon) Shatley; grandchildren, Kayla Bryant, Alexander Lyons, Madison Shatley, and Hannah Creel; a brother, John (Cathy) Swaim; and several nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00PM, Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Gentry Family Chapel in Jonesville with Rev. Steve Mahaffey, Rev. Samuel Longworth and Dale Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow at Mining Ridge Baptist Church cemetery. Mr. Swaim will be available for viewing Tuesday, Nov. 17th from 11:00AM to 5:00PM and Wednesday from 8:00AM to 1:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mining Ridge Baptist Church 3815 Mining Ridge Church Rd State Road, NC 28676. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the entire church family for the love, care and prayers during this difficult time. Also, to the staff of Mtn.
