James David "Willie" Benton

Jonesville Mr. James David “Willie” Benton, 79, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Benton was born March 4, 1943 in Surry County to Buford and Mozelle Adams Benton. He was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Army National Guard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding horses, and was the absolute best at canning. In addition to his parents, Mr. Benton was preceded in death by a son, Brian Benton; and a sister, Edith (Kenneth) Swaim. He is survived by his son, Jim (Michelle) Benton; grandchildren, Courtney (Wesley) Shover, West Holbrook (Jabari Williamson), Lesley Benton, Adien Benton, and Urijah Benton; great grandchildren, Penn, Croft, Story, and Copeland Shover; the mother of his children, Vivian Combs; a niece, Diane Swaim; a nephew, Chris Swaim; many special friends; and his very best friends, Tater and Zeb. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00pm, Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Gentry Family Chapel in Jonesville with Rev. Don Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Fall Creek Baptist Church cemetery with military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00PM prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd, Dobson, NC 27017. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Woltz Hospice Home and Debbie Ford for the loving care given to Mr. Benton.
