Jane Proctor Smith

Smith Yadkinville – Collie Jane Proctor Haire Smith of 3121 Art Road, Yadkinville, NC passed away early Sunday morning August 20, 2017 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She was born on September 18, 1929, to the late James Henderson Proctor and Nellie Vestal Proctor, one of 12 children, and raised on a small farm in Yadkin County, NC. She was a graduate of West Yadkin High School in Hamptonville, NC and Draughon Business College in Winston – Salem, NC. She was employed by the Veterans Administration in Winston-Salem, NC. for 10 years and then was offered a job with the Veterans Administration in Washington, DC where she became the Legal Supervisor of the Hearing Section of The Board of Veterans Appeals in our nation’s capital. She received numerous Superior Performance Awards including one signed and presented by President Richard Nixon. She was of the Christian faith and taught Sunday school at Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, VA until returning home to Yadkin County after retirement. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Hamptonville, NC which her parents helped to found and build. She was a beautiful, smart, accomplished woman that loved her country and its veterans. A loving daughter, thoughtful sister and a wonderful devoted mother, she was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. She is survived by her husband, Arthur W. Smith, Jr. and her beloved daughter, Pamela Jane Haire Lofland, who was the light of her life, and husband Maxwell Lofland. She is also survived by one stepson, Arthur W. Smith III, wife Georgia, and two stepdaughters, Suzyanne Milani, husband Darius, Sally Curtis, husband Ken, 8 step-grandchildren, Aleeta and Jamie Lofland, Stacy, Stephany, Parker and Rebecca Smith, Justin and Tina Milani, several step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Paul, Claude, Troy, Porter, Zeno and Harold Proctor, 5 of whom served in WW2, and 5 sisters, Ethel Proctor, Gladys Brown, Dorothy Bridges, DeEtte Johnson and Hazel Campbell. Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Mountain View Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Tucker, the Rev. Lee Proctor, and the Rev. Aaron Misenhamer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service. The church is providing a meal for family and friends in the church fellowship hall upon completion of services. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Smith family.
