Janet Carol Swaim Kimbrough

Mrs. Janet Carol Swaim Kimbrough, 73, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023. She was born in Surry County on November 17, 1949 to Arvil and Ruby Swaim. Janet was a lifelong member of Swan Creek Baptist Church. She was known as the “black haired nurse” at Jonesville Medical Center, where she worked for many years. She enjoyed reading, poetry, and collecting Thomas Kinkade stuff. Janet loved her grandchildren dearly and always enjoyed going to watch them play sports. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know and love her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arvil and Ruby Swaim, and mother and father-in-law, Jack and Winnie Kimbrough. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, James “Gray” Kimbrough; daughter, Julie (Shawn) Kimbrough Cheek; grandchildren, Matthew (Makayla) Cheek, Meagan (Ross) Manaraze, Elizabeth Cheek, Samuel Cheek, Hannah Cheek, Rebekah Cheek, James Cheek, Marty Cheek, and Nataleigh Cheek; great-grandchildren, McKinley Cheek, Madison Cheek, and Isabella Manaraze; and special cousin, Kathryn Foster.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Swan Creek Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at the church with Pastor Scott Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made in Janet’s memory to Swan Creek Baptist Church Mission Fund, 2501 Swan Creek Rd, Jonesville, NC 28642. The family would like to say a special thank you to the Wake Forest Baptist Health ICU care team for the loving and compassionate care shown to Janet and her family.
