Jessie Williams Vestal

November 30, 1932 — December 13, 2024

Yadkinville

Mrs. Jessie Williams Vestal, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024 at the SECU Hospice Home in Yadkinville. She was born in Yadkin County on November 30, 1932 to Luther Williams and Susie McCormick Williams. Jessie was a member of Pilot View Friends Meeting. She attended Pilot View her entire life, even walking through the woods to church as a child. She was very active in all areas of the church, especially known for her passion for directing the choir for 60 years, starting at age 16. Jessie was a faithful Sunday School teacher. She would start preparing for her next lesson the day after teaching, and study and pray about what she would share all week. Jessie and her husband, Fred, were the youth leaders at Pilot View and counselors at Quaker Lake Camp in their early years of marriage, and later, she took care of the senior adults at church by providing activities for them and visits. She spent years compiling and publishing a history book of Pilot View that included details on everyone who had ever been a member of the church. Jessie was an excellent cook. No one could make a chicken pie any better than she could. Jessie graduated as salutatorian from Yadkinville High School in 1951 where she was head cheerleader and active in many clubs. She planned class reunions and kept in contact with classmates her entire life. Jessie worked for Hanes Hosiery and then stayed home to raise her children. She worked many years at BB&T Bank in Yadkinville until her retirement. Jessie (also known as Nanny to her family and Jessie Myrtle to close friends) thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jessie will be deeply missed by all who had the special privilege to know her. Her friendliness, gentle spirit, and humor were known by all in the community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred A. Vestal and two brothers, Kermit Williams and Jack Williams. She is survived by two children, Alicia (Michael) Bobbitt and Tim (Sarah) Vestal; grandchildren, Devin (Morgan) Bobbitt, Krista (Jonathan) Roten, Talan Vestal, and Tenley Vestal; and great-grandchildren, Slate Bobbitt, Ridge Bobbitt, Tripp Bobbitt, and Audrey Roten.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 16, 2024 at Pilot View Friends Meeting with Timothy Vestal and Josh Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Pilot View Friends Meeting, 3225 Pilot View Church Rd, Yadkinville, NC 27055 and Mountain Valley Hospice, 243 North Lee Avenue, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the home caregivers: Diane Motley, Pennie Boyd, Hailey Flynn Collins, and Deborah Fowler, and to the staff at the SECU Hospice Home for the loving and compassionate care given to Mrs. Vestal and her family. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Vestal family.
