Jewel Jean Holmes Grinton

Boonville Mrs. Jewel Jean Holmes Grinton, 84, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018 at her home.  Mrs. Grinton was born October 2, 1933 in Iredell County to Charlie and Mamie Steele Holmes.  She attended Boonville Presbyterian Church, Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Harmony, and graduated from Unity High School in Harmony.  Mrs. Grinton loved to cook and was well known for the cakes she sold.  She assisted with the Girl Scouts for many years in the Boonville community and supported her children and grandchildren in many sporting activities.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Grinton was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Harold Grinton, Sr.; four sisters, Louise Dalton, Frankie Crawford, Nanearl Roberson, and Phelonese “Jackie” Suber; and three brothers, Raywood, Theodore “Ned”, and Samuel Holmes.  She is survived by seven children, Sandra Smith (Garrison Rice), Barry (JoAnn) Holmes, Harry (Betty) Grinton Jr., Wendell (Sherry) Grinton, Pamela (Brian) Womble, Kevin Grinton, and Ronald Grinton; 18 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a brother, George (Judy) Holmes; a brother-in-law, Moses Suber; and a host of nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 PM Monday, April 23, 2018 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.  Her Funeral Service will follow the visitation 1:30 PM Monday in the Gentry Family Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Boonville First United Presbyterian Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC  27103.  The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Destiny Walker, Jada Porter Ganzzermiller, Boonville United Methodist Church Food Delivery, Forsyth County Hospice and Palliative Care, including the C.N.A.’s  Diane, Megan, Ashley; her nurses, Melinda, Megan; and Chaplain Lenny.  Online condolences may be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.   Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Grinton family.
