It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Mr. Jimmy Lee Childress, 80, of East Bend at his residence. Jimmy was born March 24, 1944 to the late Gilmer and Hallie Childress in Winston Salem, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tony Lee Childress; a sister, Hazel Cornelius; a brother, Charles Childress. He was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in East Bend, NC. Jimmy enjoyed farming, cabinet working, and he was an avid gun collector. He raised and showed prize winning chickens for many years, having made many friends throughout the country selling his chickens. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mylinda Kay Childress; daughter, Sherry Childress (Eric Nickel) of Winston Salem, and a very special friend like a daughter, Jerri Myers Sigmon (David) and their daughter, Dalyn of Newton; granddaughter, Ashley Childress Caffey (Matt) of Winston Salem, and sisters, Judy Hodges (Billy Jo) of Winston Salem, and Kathy Hodges (Ernest) of Winston Salem. The family will receive friends, Thursday, December 26, 2024 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in East Bend. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM at the church with Rev. Bobby Watts officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. Gentry Family Funeral Service of East Bend is serving the Childress family.
