Jo Ann Lewis Ireland

Jonesville Jo Ann Lewis Ireland, age 81, died on Sunday, June 24th at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. She was born in Surry County to “Slim” Henry Lewis and Vermell Taylor Lewis and was a graduate of Jonesville High School. She was employed at Spainhour’s central accounting office for 27 years, then worked alongside her husband Charles as owners and operators at Hudson’s Bootery for 17 years. She was a member of Jonesville First Baptist Church and attended until her health began to fail. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Carrie (John) Horner. She is survived by her husband Charles Ireland, her daughter Charlotte (Mike) Kanak of Nashville, TN; sister Gerry (George) Gentry of Pfafftown, NC and family; granddaughters Emily Claire (David) Demeter and Abby Kanak; and great-grandchildren Luke and Ivey Demeter. Visitation will be held Friday, July 6th from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and a memorial service will be held Saturday, July 7th at 3:00 p.m., both at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 in her memory.  Online condolences may be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
