Joan Opal Willard Brown, 93, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018. She was born January 17, 1925 in Forsyth County to the late McKinley and Bessie Wood. She was preceded in death by her first husband Everett Lee Willard; second husband Walter R. Brown; son Michael Willard; grandchildren Damon Patrick Willard, Brian Hylemon; brothers Robert Wood and Foster Wood; sisters Rubye Williams, Carlene Clore, Linda Mondragon, Edna Mondragon.  She is survived by her children Larry Wayne Willard (Donna), Jerry Willard (Marilyn), Walter Brown Jr., Joyce Lane, Terri Ambrose (Linwood); grandchildren Michael Willard Jr., Keely Willard, Joseph Willard, Steven Matthews, Wesley Hylemon, Marty Hylemon; great-grandchildren Dylan Willard, Hailey Willard, Isabella Willard, Jordon Willard, Morgan Willard, Josh Ambrose, Blake Brown, Zach Brown; great-great-grandchild Aurora Willard; brother John Wood (Pat); several nieces and nephews; and very special friends Jerri Hayes and Thomas & Faye Willard. She was a member of Hanes Baptist Church and she also attended Yadkin Church of Christ. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Red Hat club of Yadkinville. She truly loved participating in the annual Christmas parade where she was escorted by her niece Geraldine Berry and great nephew Demitri Berry. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, June 14, 2018, 12:00 pm at Hanes Baptist Church in Winston Salem with Rev. Jason Holley officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Hanes Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
