Joan Reavis Holcomb

 Joan Holcomb Yadkinville – Joan Reavis Holcomb, 73, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018. She was born March 2, 1944 to the late William Alfred Reavis and Hazel Joyner Reavis Cooke.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Gerald “Wayne” Holcomb, Sr.; brother, Steve Reavis.  Surviving are her children, Kelly (Chip Kiel) Holcomb, Gerald Wayne (Martha) Holcomb, Jr.; grandson, Brady Cox; brothers, Ronnie (Mary) Reavis, Kenneth (Carolyn) Reavis, Sammy (Debbie) Reavis.  Joan lived in rural Yadkin County where she met her husband and settled down on their family farm in Courtney.  The loves of her life were her family, writing historical and Southern Gothic romance novels, painting in acrylics, nature and her faith in God. She diligently taught her children and grandson to be good people, show respect to others and worship God.  Joan taught English and Journalism at Forbush High School.  She was so committed to making a difference in student’s lives and making them prepared for a great future.  In 2016, Joan was diagnosed with ALS, an incurable neuromuscular disease, better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Throughout her illness she always stayed positive and kept a bright smile on her face.  She continued to lift others up as she had always done throughout her life. Her mantra was “Find Joy In Every Day.”  A private funeral service will be held at a later date.  Memorials can be made to Dr. Michael Cartwright, ALS Clinic Neurology, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27157.  Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Holcomb family.  Online condolences can be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
