YADKINVILLE - Mrs. Joan Groce Wooten, 89, of Shacktown Road passed away peacefully Monday, February 17, 2025 at Forsyth Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She was born January 6, 1936 in Yadkin County to the late Paul and Lillian Spillman Groce. Mrs. Wooten retired with 33 years of service from Hanes Hosiery. She was a faithful member of Forbush Baptist Church where she attended as long as her health permitted. She was very active in the church where she served 31 years as Choir Director, active with the W.M.U. Society at the church, and always enjoyed her church work and the opportunity to spend time with her church and immediate family. Joan loved traveling with her husband and son to Daytona Beach, Fla., and traveling with her brother and sister-in-law, niece and nephew. She also enjoyed numerous trips later in life with her sister-in-law, Lula, and special friend, Brenda Brown. She had a lot of special friends in her neighborhood, and she was always ready to help in anyway she could. God has called an angel home and she will be missed. Surviving are her beloved husband of 66 years, Phillip Wooten; her son, Kelly Wooten; two granddaughters, Kristen Wooten and Kelsi Wooten; and a great granddaughter, Scarlett Wooten. Joan cherished her grandchildren very much. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Forbush Baptist Church by Rev. Ray Davis and Rev. Grady Trivette. She will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Forbush Baptist Church, 3917 Old US 421 Highway East, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
