Hamptonville Mrs. JoAnn Smith Gilliam, 72, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Forsyth Medical Center. JoAnn was born March 16, 1950 in Hoke County to John and Rosa Tyler Smith. She was a long-standing faithful member of Mtn. View Baptist Church, where she practiced being the hands and feet of Jesus. She sang in the choir for 40 years, taught Sunday School and was the president for Baptist Women. JoAnn was the first smile you would see when you walked into the church with her deep blue eyes twinkling. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her daughter, Dawn Gilliam; a sister, Ella Hogge; and a brother, John Wayne Smith. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Terry Wintfred Gilliam; two children, Sterling (Jill) Gilliam and Sara (Ryan) Crater; grandchildren, Saige (Dallas) Snow, Quinn (Stewart) Wilkins, Kaitlyn (Easton) Smith, Kinston Crater, and Collin Crater; great grandchildren, Bronson and Ivy Snow; mother-in-law, Edwina Shore Gilliam; a sister, Shirley (Mike) Melton; two brothers, Jim (Nancy) Smith and Donnie (Jean) Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00PM, Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Mtn. View Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Tucker, Rev. Joel Riley, and Preacher Dallas Snow officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Gilliam will lie in state from 2:00 to 3:00PM at the church prior to the service. She will be available for public viewing Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 8:00AM to 5:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mtn.
