Mr. John Shoffner Collins, age 85, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022. He was born December 24, 1936 in Wayne County to the late Plato Collins and Vivian Wiggins Goudy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Lee Taylor Collins, a grandson, Gabriel James Aquilano, and John’s dear Aunt, Julia Wiggins Reynolds. John served in the US Navy and also the US Army Reserves. In his early life, John enjoyed hiking, camping, biking, and he ran in several marathons. John was known for his great humor. He enjoyed reading, writing poetry, and writing short stories, and he also wrote a play and a Science fiction novel. He is survived by his three daughters, Catherine (Shane) Stout, Christina (Tony) Aquilano, Gigi (fiancé Ryan Fulbright) Collins; grandchildren, Jackson, Grayson, Haley (fiancé Eugene Ericksen), Connor, Lee, Anthony, Benjamin; great-granddaughter, Ivy Rose. The family will receive friends, Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 1:45 PM until 3:45 PM at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A Life Celebration with family and friends will follow the visitation at 4:00 PM in the Gentry Family Chapel with full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346.
