John "Gilbert" Gough

Hamptonville Mr. John “Gilbert” Gough, 89, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Hugh Chatham Hospital. Mr. Gough was born February 14, 1929 in Yadkin County to John and Nina Sizemore Gough. He was a veteran of the US Navy Reserves and a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. Mr. Gough farmed tobacco and peppers in his earlier years. He worked as a manager of Gough Bros. Shell and Davie Motors. He was parts manager for Mendenhall Motors and Joes Auto Parts, and owned The Parts Place. Gilbert was very active with Meals on Wheels and Yadkin Christian Ministries for many years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gough was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Pardue and a brother, Buddy Gough. He is survived by four children, Steve (Birgit) Gough, Elaine (Mike) Hicks, Amy Outen, and Tim (Donna) Gough; four grandchildren, Chelsea (Dan) Taylor, Amanda Outen, Preston Gough, and Olivia Gough; a very special friend who cared deeply for Gilbert, Coleen Sizemore; one sister, Mary Wilmoth; three brothers, Paul Gough, Jerrell (Linda) Gough, and Bobby (Jackie) Gough; and a sister-in-law, Ellen Gough. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00PM, Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 at Flat Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Tomlin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00PM prior to the service at the church.
