John Carl Jennings

John Carl Jennings, 77, passed away Monday, February 3, 2020. He was born June 2, 1942 in Matoaca County, Virginia to the late Homer and Violet Jennings. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger Jennings, Buddy Jennings, Ronnie Jennings, and sister, Joyce Martin. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Poindexter Jennings; children, Lisa Johnson (Doug) and John Russell Jennings; grandchildren, Brandon Johnson and Collin Johnson; sisters, Juanita Pendergrass, Kathy Harless, and Connie Jennings; very special loving granddaughter, Miranda Williams, and her husband, Kevin. He was a member of Charity Baptist Church and, in his younger days, he enjoyed arm wrestling and shooting pool. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Gentry Family Funeral Service. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM in the Gentry Family Chapel with Rev. Eddie Driver and Rev. Marty Nixon officiating. Burial will follow in the Charity Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Woltz Hospice Home for the loving care shown to John and his family. The family would also like to thank John and Shirley’s friends, Rev. Eddie Driver, Rev. Marty Nixon, and Shirley’s two special sisters, Betty Wyatt and Debbie Utt, for all the prayers, visits, and help with any needs that John and Shirley have had during this difficult time.
