Hamptonville – John Sloop Martin, 88, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2023. He was born September 11, 1934 in Iredell County to the late Warren Seth Martin and Mabel Anna Norris Martin. John was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon, and enjoyed working with the youth. He also taught Sunday School for over 50 years. He started out as part-owner of a John-Deere Equipment company in Statesville, then worked for Farm Service Center in Hamptonville. John then worked and traveled for several agriculture equipment companies as a salesman. He retired from Taylor-Way Manufacturing in 2005. He also farmed most of his life in addition to his regular job. His shop at his home was known by many of the local farmers. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jo Alexander; brothers, George Martin and Jim Martin. Surviving is his wife, Kay Elizabeth Caudle Martin; children, Dale (Jennifer) Martin, Kyle Martin, Chris (Angie) Martin, Sharon (Dewayne) Martin; grandchildren, Madison (David) Turner, Kyndale (Emily) Martin, Skylar (Luke Anderson, Fiancé) Martin, Morgan Martin; great grandchild, Oaklynn Griffin; sisters, Lucille Caviness, Carol (Dwight) Windsor; brother, William “Bill” Martin; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. His memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Flat Rock Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, September 15, 2023 at Flat Rock Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 3800 Flat Rock Church Road, Hamptonville, NC 27020. Memorials can be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church, PO Box 267, Hamptonville, NC 27020. The family would like to thank Yadkin Nursing Care Center and a special niece, Joan Holyfield for all the love and care shown to John.
