John Clifton Rutledge

June 17, 1928 — January 8, 2021

John Clifton Rutledge, age 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, January 8, 2021. He was born June 17, 1928 in Yadkin County to the late Evan Monroe Rutledge and Minnie Carter Rutledge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Violet Williams Rutledge; brother, Thurmond Rutledge; sister, Bernice Casto, and Cleta Rutledge; 2 infant brothers. He is survived by his children, Cathy Gibson, and Johnny (Sheila) Rutledge; Grandchildren, Kelly (Brian) McCollum, and Sheri (Kelly) Swaim; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Lucas, and Corbin McCollum, Jackson, Cole, and Maggie Swaim; brothers, JR Rutledge, and Paul Rutledge; many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends, whom were dear to his heart. Clifton was known for his smile, his kindness, sweet disposition, and making many friends. He and his wife traveled to most of the 50 states. They loved touring with the Model A Club and camping with friends. He was a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Friends Church, where he served as an Elder, Superintendent, and Teacher. He helped design and draw the blueprints for the church. He was a charter member of Forbush Fire Department, and Piedmont Model A Restorer Club for 61 years. Clifton retired from RJReynolds. One of his favorite hobbies was rebuilding and working on his Model A’s. We were blessed to have him for 92 years and he was so proud of his family. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Sunday, January 10, 2020 at Mt. Carmel Friends Meeting Cemetery with Rev. Rev. Jeff Farmer, and Bro. Lawrence Warden officiating. Friends are welcome to drive your Model A and early V8’s, along with the fire department and blow your horn at the end of the service. Clifton will be available for public viewing on Sunday from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The family would like to thank the staff of Yadkin Nursing Center for the loving care shown to Clifton. Memorial may be made to Mt. Carmel Friends Church Building Fund, 3417 Mt. Carmel Ch.
