Johnny Ray Shumate, 57, passed away on Thursday, May 12th, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 9th, 1964 to Betty Cook Shumate and Travis Lee Shumate Sr. Johnny Shumate was preceded in death by his parents Betty and Travis Shumate, and two of his three brothers Travis “Lee” Shumate Jr. and Timothy Odell Shumate. However, Johnny’s legacy continues to live on with his loving wife Tonya Adams Shumate, his two sons Joshua Ray Shumate and Levi Cory Shumate, and his brother Michael Odell Shumate. Johnny had several different hobbies including, spending time at the lake, enjoying the company of family and friends, repairing and building vehicles/trucks, and mud bogging. No matter where he went or what he did, people would always remember him for his compassion and humor. Later in life, Johnny was diagnosed with two incurable diseases. Despite knowing this, he continued to persevere in life. Proving that no matter how long the nights are, you will eventually see the sun rise. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Sunday May 22, 2022 at 3:00 pm from Gentry Family Chapel-East Bend with Pastor Bob Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm Sunday May 22, 2022 at Gentry Family Funeral Service - East Bend.
