Johnny Elijah Simmons

Mr. Johnny Elijah Simmons, age 94, of Jonesville, NC passed away on December 22, 2021. He was born on January 5, 1927 in Yadkin County to the late Dewey and Lula Luffman Simmons. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Robinson and Dorothy Pitts; brothers, Grady Simmons and Leo Simmons. Johnny was a member of Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church. He loved his family, church, and reading his Bible. He enjoyed time spent at the beach, fishing, cooking, making biscuits and candy mints. In his younger years Johnny really enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Johnny is survived by his children, Lynn (Dennis) Burnette, Kay Smith, Mark (Dawn) Simmons, and Michelle (Jonathan) Vogler; grandchildren, Lauren (Ryan) Arp, Andrew Burnette, Landon Smith, Jennifer (Derrick) Barringer, Dustin (Melanie) Simmons, Holly (Sam) Chandler, Benjamin (Kasey) Vogler; great-grandchildren, Gabriella Arp, Dailan (Katelin) Smith, Courtney Barringer, Collins Vogler, Calum Chandler; great-great grandchildren Ethan Barringer and Kinsley Barringer; sisters, Inez (Tommy) Fuquay and Naomi Thompson; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 12:00 – 1 PM. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 1 PM, officiated by pastor Tommy Fuquay officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood cemetery with military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 Honor Guard and the US Navy. Social distancing and wearing of masks are encouraged.
