Joseph Ray Hobson

Boonville Mr. Joseph Ray Hobson, 91, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 at his home. Mr. Hobson was born March 29, 1927 in Yadkin County to Luther and Emma Brown Hobson. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during WWII, was a member of the Yadkin VFW Post, and a member of the American Legion Post 336 in East Bend. Mr. Hobson was a tobacco farmer and enjoyed riding horses, fishing, art, and carpentry. He was a member of Richmond Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hobson was preceded in death by two brothers, Worth and Carl Hobson; and eight sisters, Edith Key, Opal Pendry, Gladys Davis, Fannie Taylor, Edna Coe, Goldie Hinshaw, Irma Hinshaw, and Daisy Taylor. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Hedy Moser Hobson; three children, Carson (Vaun) Hobson, Carolyn Shotwell, and Nicky Hobson; grandchildren, Wendy & Lee Ashworth, and Tara & Andy Hobson; great grandchildren, Kurstie (Sam) Hudson, Angelica, Amber & Addison Ashworth, Seth Hobson, and Keith Allison; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00PM, Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Richmond Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Will Hamric officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and NC National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00PM, prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Richmond Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2205 Richmond Hill Church Rd, Boonville, NC 27011.
