YADKINVILLE- Mrs. Josephine Steelman Brown, 99, of Old US 421 Highway East passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin. She was born October 7, 1923 in Yadkin County to the late Thomas and Ollie Hoots Steelman. Mrs. Brown worked several years at Hanes Hosiery and was retired from Forsyth Medical Center. She loved the game of basketball and was a star basketball player in high school scoring 42 points in one game of a tournament. Mrs. Brown was the oldest member of Enon Baptist Church. She served the church faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher, and always stayed involved as an active member with other activities. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert James Brown in 1970, by her 2 sons, Ronnie Brown, Jimmy Brown, a grandchild, a great-grandchild, and numerous brothers and sisters. Surviving are her son, Tal Brown and wife, Jenny; daughter, Sharon LaFevers and husband, Steve; Daughter-in-law, Dianne Brown; her niece, Audrey Hutchens; grandchildren, Davin (Megan) Brown, Carrie (Alex) McGuire, Anna (Joe) Engelbrecht, Justin (Whitney) Brown, Steven (Jessica) LaFevers, Scott (Kim) LaFevers, Tracey (H.B.) Moore, Paige (John) Daniels; and 19 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:30 PM Sunday at Enon Baptist Church. Her funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:30 PM in the church by Rev. Bill Messer and Rev. Mark Elmore. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Mountain Valley Hospice, Brookstone of Clemmons, and her special friends and church family especially Phyllis McCollum, for all of the loving care given.
