Judy Carol Howell Allred, 81, of Boonville, NC, met her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 17, 2025 in the peacefulness of her home. Judy was born on December 6,1943, to George Carl Howell and Margaret Sloan Howell in Forsyth County. She was the youngest of six children. Along with her parents, Judy was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Larry Max Allred. They were married on December 26th,1964, and were blessed with 53 years together until Larry’s death in 2018. She was also preceded in death by her loving sister Patty Hutchens, loyal brothers Richard and Gary Howell, a sweet niece, Angela Paige Howell, adventurous and talented brothers-in-law Sammy Allred and Ray Childress, and by her loving mother and father-in-law Olav and Max Allred.
Judy is survived by one daughter, Maria (Gary) Moxley, two grandsons Garrett (Julia) Moxley, Grant (Laken) Moxley, and two great grandchildren, Lincoln Reid Moxley and Shiloh Grace Moxley. She is also survived by her loving sister and brother, Wanda Childress and Keith (Jerrie) Howell, as well as a devoted and loving brother-in-law, Dr. Lynn (Lori) Allred, and caring sisters-in-law Frances (Ken) Mabe, Claudia Guthrie, and Kay (Danny) Mathis. She was loved and adored by a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, neighbors, former co-workers, friends, and by her St. Paul church family. Judy was also “Momma” to countless furry friends throughout her life. Each one brought her immense joy, especially her sweet cockapoo, Emma Lou, whom she rescued and dearly loved, and who crossed the rainbow bridge just nine days before sweet Judy met Jesus.
Judy graduated from Yadkinville High School in 1962, and soon began her rewarding career as an Engineering Assistant with Southern Bell Telephone Company (later named Bell South, then AT & T). After her “retirement”, she started working again as a contract engineer for Telics Communications. She worked a total of 52 years, and rarely missed a day of work. Her strong work ethic, professionalism, and love of her job and co-workers made for a fulfilling lifelong career. Judy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her favorite and most fun title of all was “Grandma”, spoiling and loving on her two grandsons and great grandchildren. There were countless sleepovers, Walmart runs to find that perfect toy, tractor rides, eating out, beach trips, movie watching, ball games, and lots of love shown to Garrett and Grant since their birth.
Judy had a servant’s heart, and showed her love for others in various ways. She had a passion for sending cards for every occasion to family and friends, and would decorate the envelopes with colorful, whimsical stickers. Judy volunteered each summer at the “Summer Fun” program sponsored by the Missional Network Program where she helped serve, love on, and minister to countless youth. Judy also wanted to make sure her church family was fed every Sunday morning by providing ham biscuits and banana bread until her declining health prevented her from coming. Her hummingbird cake, chocolate pie, chocolate gravy, tenderloin, potato salad, peach cobbler, sweet tea, deviled eggs, and everything she made was divine!! Judy was an avid lover and reader of books, and always said she hoped there was a grand library in heaven. She loved camping and beach trips with her family at Emerald Isle and Lake Hickory, and was a friend to everyone she met.
Judy was a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir, baking homemade desserts to share, and doing lots of “behind the scenes” acts of kindness and service to her church as long as her health allowed.
Her family, church family, friends, and neighbors will miss her caring, loving heart. She always saw the glass “half full”, and saw the positive side of even the darkest times. She made anyone feel like family, and made them feel welcome and loved. Her advice to others is “JUST BE READY! She wants to be reunited with you in heaven one day!
