Kate McKnight Burton

-  Mrs. Kate McKnight Burton, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, December 17, 2018, at Yadkin Nursing Center.  She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and loving caregiver of many children.  Mrs. Burton was born May 2, 1927 in Yadkin County the daughter of Fate and Urseal Reece McKnight.  Mrs. Burton was a life long member of Charity Baptist Church where she served the church in several positions and was a devoted member of the WMU until her health failed.  On November 27, 1947 she married the loved of her life, J.P. Burton, and they were married for 63 years until his death in 2011.  She was a graduate of Boonville High School and was known as “Mama Kate” by the many children she cared for in their home for many years.  In addition to her parents and loving husband, J.P. , she was preceded in death by her brother, C.L. McKnight.  She is survived by three children, Kathy (Dale) Wilhelm of Yadkinville, Joanie (Mike) Prim, of Boonville, and Johnny (Linda) Burton of Boonville; four grandchildren, Brooke (Perry) Snow of Yadkinville, Preston (Callie) Burton of Huntersville, Ricky Huff of Lewisville, and Chad (Sabrena) Hemric of Elkin; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Lauren, and Haley Hemric; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Max) Vestal and Kathleen Burton, several nieces, nephews, and special family friends, Jimmy (Jean) Stewart, Susan Brooks, and Shane Stewart.  Her funeral service will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Charity Baptist Church with Reverand Eddy Driver officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30PM Wednesday before the service at Charity Baptist Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Charity Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Building Fund, Charity Baptist Church, 1500 Charity Church Road, Boonville, NC  27011 or SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin, 243 East Lee Avenue, Yadkinville, NC  27055, or to the charity of the Donors choice.  The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Yadkin Nursing Center for the love and care shown to her.  Online condolences may be made to www.gentryfuneralservice.com.  Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Burton Family.
