Kate Pardue Somers

Kate Pardue Somers, 97, was welcomed to her Heavenly Home on Saturday, September 21, 2024. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin. Born in Wilkes County on September 5, 1927 to Julia Brannon and Martin Pardue, the 7th of 8 children. 

In 1947 she would marry the love of her life William Ted Somers. After his passing in 2010, she longed to be reunited with him. In addition to her parents and beloved husband she was preceded in death by brothers; Armstrong Pardue, Tom (Fuchsia) Pardue, Joe (Mildred) Pardue, Arvil (Jennie) Pardue and sisters; Polly (Garney) Pruitt, Edith (Hack) Bell and Florence (Kermit) Pardue.

She is survived by daughter Gilda (Gerald) Sale of Ronda and son Terry (Susan) Somers of Hamptonville, grandchildren; Chad Sale, Kendra (Wesley) Vestal, Justin (Lindsey) Somers and Jamie (Rochelle) Somers, great grandchildren; Julia Somers, Anna Sale, Kerry Somers, Preston Somers and Adlea Sale. Kate’s home was often the family gathering spot and she has always had a special relationship with her numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. 

Kate was a great cook and baker, skilled gardener and talented seamstress, quilter and crocheter. Throughout her working years, she worked as a seamstress. She was most known for her family meals, beautiful quilts and crochet work and her elaborate garden. In her final years she wanted to have her fingers at work again in the soil. 

There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the Gentry Family Funeral Home Chapel in Yadkinville by Rev. James Safrit, followed by a graveside service at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Ronda. 

The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice, as well as the residents and staff at Magnolias Over Yadkin.
