Hamptonville- Kathleen Sloop Pinnix, 98, was received into the arms of Jesus on January 27, 2021 at Yadkin Nursing and Rehab Center in Yadkinville. Kathleen was born on December 30, 1922 in the Friendship Community near Elkin to Henry Monroe and Cora Lee Mounce Sloop. While an adolescent, her family moved to Yadkin County. As a sister helping to care for younger siblings, Kathleen became a natural at the skills involved in making a house a home. These skills guided her in becoming a stand up, strong willed woman who always exhibited respect, dignity, kindness, and compassion. She was part of the fabric of all who knew and loved her. Her first job was working behind the lunch counter at Walgreens in downtown Winston-Salem. Later, assisting the war effort, she worked at the American Carbon Company in Winston-Salem. Kathleen married Nelson Byron Pinnix after his discharge from the US Army. They settled in Hamptonville and started a family. Kathleen was very civic minded and involved with the PTA, West Yadkin Extension Homemakers Club and was the organizing president of the WMU at Mountain View Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. Her German Chocolate cake was a much anticipated delight at family and church gatherings. Kathleen’s interests included oil painting, gardening, and raising Old English boxwoods. She was an amazing seamstress and devoted most of her time and energy to providing a Christian home for her family. She was a woman of strong faith who loved the Lord. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Nelson, and an infant daughter, Sandra Lee. Several siblings preceded her in death : Iris, Mary, Richard, Aubrey, Tommy, Monroe, Bud, and Frankie Sloop, Lucy Smith, Barbara Reinhardt, Vena Caudle, and Annie Shore. Kathleen is survived by daughters Bobbie Goforth, Kay (Danny) Mathis, and Wanda Shaffner; grandchildren, David Goforth, Allison (Sam) Hughes, Amy Allred, and Michael Shaffner; great-grandchildren, Katherine Bullard, Jack Leonard, and Olivia Hughes. She is also survived by one sister, Betty Burney, one brother Jerry Sloop and two sisters-in-law Ruby Shore and Barbara Pinnix. Left to cherish her memory, as well, are several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Mountain View Bapist Church Cemetery in Hamptonville on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Tim Tucker officiating. Due to COVID-19, those in attendance are requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
