Mr. Larry Max Allred, 76, of Boonville, NC, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, October 28, 2018. He was born on July 26, 1942 in Yadkin County to Olav Myers Allred and Dewey Max Allred of Hamptonville, North Carolina. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and fellowshipping with his church family and friends. He attended West Yadkin High School where he excelled in every sport, and then graduated from the Winston-Salem Barber College after high school. He started has career as a barber alongside his Uncle Wade LeVan at LeVan’s Barber Shop. He retired from Stroh’s Brewery in 1996 after 25 years of service. He also enjoyed farming, gardening, feeding and watching birds, and spending time with his furry companion Emma. He was an avid antique tractor collector, and he loved God, his family, and his country. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1964-1971, and earned the Marine Corps Reserve Medal in 1969. Larry also helped his community by serving in the Yadkin County Rescue Squad where he was named “Man of the Year” in 1976. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Dewey Max Allred, and his brother, Sammy Lee Allred. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Judy Howell Allred. They were married on December 26, 1964. He is also survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Gary Moxley, two grandsons, who were the light of his life, Garrett Keith Moxley and Grant Allred Moxley; his mother, Olav Myers Allred, one brother, Dr. Lynn (Lori) Allred; two special brother-in-laws, Rev. Keith (Jerrie) Howell and Gary Howell; and one special sister-in-law, Wanda Howell Childress. He also had a host of special nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, November 2, 2018 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2708 Buck Shoals Rd., Hamptonville, NC. Mr. Allred will lie in state from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. His funeral will start at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Keith Howell and Rev. Dr. Claudia Harrelson conducting the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately after the grave side service.
