Leavora Whitaker Poindexter

Poindexter East Bend – Leavora Mae Whitaker Poindexter, 88, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Yadkin Nursing Care Center. She was born June 8, 1929 in Surry County to the late Floyd Whitaker and Fannie Eads Whitaker.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Jefferson Poindexter; son, James Michael Poindexter; two sisters; four brothers.  Surviving are her children, Melvin (Rayleen) Poindexter, Mary Angela Poindexter; grandchildren, Aaron (Tawnie-Rae) Poindexter, Amy Jo Gorski, Ryan Poindexter, Tyler Poindexter; great grandchildren, Kyra, Michael-James, Blake, Eli; sister, Francis (Floyd) Baugus.  Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville.  Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville, which is serving the Poindexter family.  Online condolences can be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
