Lola Steelman Davis, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 29, 2018. Mrs. Davis had lived at Salemtowne in Winston-Salem prior to her death. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Perry G. Davis in 2010. Lola was born on March 18, 1926 to Joseph and Elma Steelman in Hamptonville, NC. She graduated from West Yadkin High School, completed Cosmetology School, and then completed her teaching certificate course work at VA Tech. She retired from Wythe County schools where she taught Cosmetology for 19 years. She was a dedicated teacher who built lasting friendships with many of her students. She was a lifelong member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her life was characterized by her devotion to her family, to her Church, to her community, and to her work. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her three sisters: Olene Trivette, Edith Dobbins, and Betty Crews, and survived by two brothers brothers Bill Steelman of Rhonda, NC; and James Steelman of Cary, NC. Mrs. Davis is survived by two daughters, L. Angelise Davis of Spartanburg, SC; and Betty Ann McInteer (Tom) of Winston-Salem, NC; one son, P. Garland Davis (Kelly) of Sandy, UT. She is survived by six granddaughters who called her "Moe": Niki McInteer of Winston-Salem, Allie Maka (Jesse) of Bremerton, WA; Kimberly Boyce of Spartanburg, SC; Morgan, Emma, and Becca Davis of Sandy UT; two great grandchildren Jeremiah Boyce and Keziah Boyce; many cousins, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Flat Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joey Tomlin officiating. Burial will follow at the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
