Lura Gay Dobson

Boonville Ms. Lura Gay Dobson, 55, passed away Monday, October 16, 2017 at her home. Ms. Dobson was born November 26, 1961 in Surry County to James and Edith Mae Dobson. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Lura loved canning, cooking, gardening, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Lura was preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Smith. She is survived by her two children, India Smith and Marcus Ronell (Agnes) Choate; grandchildren, Kalia-Lani, Lailani, Samuel, and Shauna Choate; two sisters, Maria (William) Cockerham and Wanda (Donald) Choate; and one brother, Larry (Mary) Dobson. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00PM, Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Gentry Family Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00PM prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be made to Gentry Funeral Service to assist with funeral expenses. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Lura’s wonderful neighbors, the staff of Mtn. Valley Hospice, and the staff of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for the loving care given to Lura during this difficult journey.
