Ms. Mabel Plowman Styers, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 13, 1944, in Yadkin County, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo Lee and Viola Evangeline Lakey Plowman.
Mabel was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love and care for her family were the center of her life. She worked for several years with businesses such as Winston-Salem Printing and Unifi, but her greatest joy was being a homemaker and spending quality time with her children and grandchildren. She cherished the simple pleasures of life, from attending gospel music concerts by Quinton Mills and Michael Combs to exploring local yard sales with her loved ones. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she showered them with love and affection every chance she could.
Mabel found peace in her garden, tending to flowers and watching hummingbirds fly by. Her passion for gardening and her love for sharing the beauty she cultivated with others was a reflection of her generous spirit. Mabel was also a faithful member of Enon Baptist Church for many years, and her faith guided her throughout her life.
In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by her sister, Evalee Matthews; her brothers, Alonzo Plowman, Jr., Don Plowman, and an infant brother.
She is survived by her devoted children, Bobby (Donna) Styers, Ferenda Styers, and Colin (Ember) Styers; her beloved grandchildren, Lauren, Tyler, and Tristan Styers; and her great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Ann Styers. She is also survived by her sisters, Jamie Slater, Sue Pope, and Ann Plowman Wilson, as well as her brothers, Thurmond (Mary) Plowman, Buddy Plowman, and Jack Plowman.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Enon Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, with Rev. David Frankenfield officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery immediately following the service.
Mabel will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Enon Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 6321 Old Highway 421, East Bend, NC 27018.
