Marie Gardner Day, 89, passed away Monday October 16, 2017. She was born July 12, 1928 in Forsyth County to the late Clovis Edward “Ed” and Nellie Pettis Gardner. Mrs. Day was retired from Hanes Hosiery after 35 years of service. She was a faithful member of Mountain Grove United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was Choir Director 40 plus years as long as her health allowed and also was member of Psalms Trio. Mrs. Day was a member of the West Yadkin VFW Women’s Auxiliary,a volunteer with Yadkin Christian Ministries, Yadkin County Meals on Wheels. She won multiple Gold Medals in the Yadkin Senior Olympics. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marvin Franklin Day; an infant sister Amanda; sister Beulah Brown; six brothers Clifton Gardner, Maxton Gardner, William Gardner, Walter Gardner, Rubin Gardner, and John Gardner. Surviving are two sons John (Vivian) Day, Allen (LeeAnn) Day; grandsons John Kelly Day, Grant (Sarah) Day; granddaughter Natalie (Jason) Matthews; great grandson Mason Day; great granddaughters Stella Matthews and Lyla Matthews; sister Edith Tilley; two sister-in-law’s Vetral Gardner and Jessie Gardner; and numerous special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Thursday October 19, 2017 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral will be conducted at 11:00 AM following the visitation in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Claudia Harrelson and Rev. Jesse Clubb. Burial will follow at Mountain Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family would like to say a very special thanks to the staff at Chatham Skills Care Nursing and Rehab, Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital ER, and ICU for the loving care given to Mrs. Day.
