YADKINVILLE - Annie Marie Long Reavis, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother peacefully passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024 at her home. She was 99 years old.
Marie was born on January 23, 1925, to the late R. Blum Long and Anna Vaden Long. She graduated from West Yadkin High School in 1941 at age 16. She was a member of Center Global Methodist Church in Yadkinville, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gray Reavis, brothers George (Georgia) Long, Clifton (Zelma) Long, L.M. "Mack" (Katie Lee) Long and Blum A. "Bookie" Long. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Gray (Brenda) Reavis, Jr., Michael (Kim) Reavis, Kenneth (Donna) Reavis, Carolyn (Paul) Mundt; grandchildren, Anna (Jason) Husk, Jennifer Reavis, Jami (Nickie) Reavis, Ben (Crystal) Reavis, Angela Reavis, Anna Reavis; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Rebecca Husk, Nolan Fryer, Grayson and Josslyn Reavis; along with several nieces and nephews.
Marie had many gifts. One that stood out and shared with countless others was her love of music. She had an incredible talent for playing the piano. Coincidentally, that is how she met her husband, Gray, at a revival hosted by Center United Methodist Church. Not only was he smitten with her musical ability, but her beauty also brought a twinkle to his eye. She shared this talent for over 50 years playing the piano for the choir, multiple groups, weddings, funerals, and Christmas cantantas. She was instrumental in teaching children the joy of singing. She taught multitudes how to follow the notes and sing different parts. This is a blessing that so many have carried throughout their adult lives. Glorifying God through music was a bond that she and her husband passionately shared.
It seemed whatever Marie set her mind to learn, she succeeded. She was a fantastic seamstress, crafting suits and dresses that looked store-quality. She learned many other crafts including cake decorating, lamp shade carving, and mixed media wood painting. For many years, she and her husband had multiple gardens and did loads of canning. She was an outstanding cook. One of her known specialties was her coconut cream pie.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Center Global Methodist Church in Yadkinville. A service to honor and celebrate her life will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM Tuesday also at the church and officiated by Rev. Lisa Wishon and Rev. Rex Cranfill. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, where she will rest alongside her beloved husband, Gray.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Center Global Methodist Church.
The family would also like to extend their gratitude to her caregivers at home, Shirley, Tammy, and Brandi who cared tirelessly for her with such kindness and love.
