Marita McIntosh Finnila

Boonville, NC --Marita Lorraine McIntosh Finnila, formerly of Traverse City, Michigan, passed peacefully on October 18, 2019 at Willowbrook Rehab and Care Center, Yadkinville, NC after a brief illness. After her retirement from Burke-Flexo in Traverse City, Michigan, she and her husband moved to North Carolina to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. Marita was a loving, caring, hard-working mother, grandmother, and “grandee” with a special, beautiful smile, who will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, painting, crocheting and sitting outside enjoying the sunshine and flowers. Marita was born May 30, 1928 in Grawn, Michigan to Harold and Calla (Horton) McIntosh. She married Carl Clarence Finnila in Traverse City, Michigan on June 18, 1949.  She was preceded in death by her husband in 2007, her parents, two sisters, Elaine Matthews and Vesta (Bert) Lowery, and one brother, Wayne McIntosh all of Traverse City. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Penny George (David), Yadkinville, NC, granddaughter, Alicia Wood, Elkin, NC and grandson, Kevin Lange (Tamisiea) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri.  She is also survived by great-grandaughters, Alexis and Addison Wood, Elkin, NC, whom she adored, a sister-in-law, Betty Archer and many special nieces and nephews from Traverse City and surrounding areas. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville by the Rev. Chris Hauser.  Burial will follow at Boonville Cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Willowbrook Healthcare, Activities Department, 333 E. Lee Ave., Yadkinville, NC 27055 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
