Yadkinville-Martha Brinegar Athan, 82, of Yadkinville, died Tuesday, December 14, 2021. She was born in Burke County on September 8, 1939 to Kyle Monroe and Rosetta Harrold Brinegar. Mrs. Athan loved her years running B&M BBQ and later loved selling her baked goods at the farmer’s market in Winston Salem. She loved cooking, baking, and gardening both flowers and vegetables. She was a devoted wife and caregiver to her husband, Billy, throughout their golden years and after his passing, her grandson, Jonah stepped in to care for her. Most of all, she loved her family and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved and attended Wyo Bible Methodist Church and cherished her many friends in the Wyo community. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Vernon Athan. Surviving are her daughters, Cindi Athan (Robin, Sr.) Dixon and Vernay Athan (Devon) Swaim; grandchildren, Rob Dixon and Fiance’ Erica, Ryan (Madison) Dixon, Alexandra Vittoe (Alex) Hill, and Jonah Vittoe; a sister, Marilyn Proffit; a brother, Stephen Brinegar; sister-in-law, Brenda Athan; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Her memorial service will be held Friday, December 17, 2021 at 3:00PM at Gentry Funeral Chapel with Jonah Vittoe, Jeff Moody, David Stetler, and Robin Dixon. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday from 2-3 PM. The family extends a special thank you to the Staff of Medical Park Hospital and Dr. Lori Kellam for the compassionate care and support of Martha and family over the past week.
