Martha Ruth Murphy Hutchens

Yadkinville - Martha Ruth Murphy Hutchens, 77, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2025. She was born September 16, 1947. Mrs. Hutchens was a member of Faith Community Baptist Church where she loved singing in the choir and helping with the nursery. In addition to the church choir, she was a member of Sweet Adelines years ago. After 30 years of service at Wake Forest School of Medicine, she retired and spent much of her time tending to her flowers and growing her garden. She was preceded by her husband James “Jim” Hutchens; parents, Bruce and Laura Ruth Murphy; and sister, Carol Blake. Surviving are her children Juli (William) Miller, James (Janet) Hutchens; grandchildren Cameron (Abigail) Hutchens, Kacie (Cameron) Sloan, Madelyn Hutchens (Zach Edmonds), Catie Miller (Austin Bradford), Charlie Miller; great grandchildren Gideon Hutchens, Moriah Hutchens, and Cameron Sloan Jr. (any day now); brother Robert (Betty) Murphy; one niece, and several nephews. Since losing her husband, Penny, her beloved beagle, has been right by her side. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Faith Community Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at the church by Bro. Cameron Hutchens and Pastor Brian Poindexter at 3:00 PM with burial to follow in church cemetery. The family would like to say a very special thanks to the staff at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the loving care given to Mrs. Hutchens.
