Mary “Alice” Barker Darnell passed away on May 23, 2021 at home. Alice was born on June 1, 1952 to the late Preacher Olin & Grace Soots Barker. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter; Mary Loretta Darnell, sisters; Patsy Call & Linda Staley, and brother; Larry Barker.  Alice was a faithful member of Thanks to Calvary Baptist Church.  Alice was a wonderful cook and enjoyed meals and time spent with her family.  She loved her grandbabies more than anything in the world.  She made sure every holiday was special with gifts and goodies for her grandchildren.  She never met a stranger but loved everyone.  All those who ate her  mashed potatoes and banana pudding loved them!  Alice loved to babysit and spent many hours caring for children.     

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, April Darnell, Tonya (Terry) Vestal, Melissa (Ricky) Wood; grandchildren, Christina Hawkins, Stacy (Dustin) Soloe, Ryan Vestal, Sarah Vestal, Laken, Ashton, & Betty Grace Wood; sister, Janie (Wayne) McCann; brothers, Rev. Jerry (Janie) Barker, Dr. Allen (Jan) Barker, and brother-in-law, Donnie Staley; great-grandchildren, Connor Adams, Eli Hawkins, Bryson Adams, Anyiah Adams, Isiah Soloe, & Kash Money.   

The family is eternally grateful for the loving care given to Mrs. Darnell by Rita Call. 

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2 PM, on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Thanks to Calvary Baptist Church in Elkin.  The funeral service will follow at 2 PM on Thursday, May 27, 2021, officiated by Rev. Gwen Anderson and Dr. Jeremy Simpson.  Burial will follow in the Ronda Cemetery and Committal Service will be officiated by Rev.
