Mary Kate Woodhouse Shugart

April 3, 1925 — December 3, 2017

Shugart Jonesville-  Mrs. Mary Kate Woodhouse Shugart, 92, formerly of Jonesville, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Vienna Village in Pfafftown where she had been residing for the past few years.  She was born April 13, 1925, in Yadkin County to the late Frank and Annie Saunders Woodhouse.  Mrs. Shugart was retired from Jonesville Elementary School where she worked as a teacher’s assistant during the time her husband, Dallas Reece Shugart, served as Principal.  She was a long-time member of Jonesville First United Methodist Church, where she faithfully served as a Sunday School Teacher for the children and as a member of the United Methodist Women, as well as other activities within the church.  After retirement, she and Reece enjoyed traveling the United States and spending time during the winter months in Florida. Myrtle Beach summer vacations with the entire family were a yearly tradition. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dallas Reece Shugart on March 5, 2007; by a sister, Annette Boles; a brother, Frances Woodhouse; a niece, Saunders Boyles Thompson; and a nephew, David Norman.  Surviving are her sons, Dallas Reece Shugart, Jr. and wife, Lucia; Jim Shugart and wife, Jane; her daughter, Katherine S. Hartman and husband, Tony; grandchildren, Mary Katherine Hartman, Paige Shugart, and fiance’, Tyler Hayes, Dallas Reece Shugart III, Francesca Shugart; sister-in-law, Doris Norman; niece, Donna Norman; nephews, Frank Boles and Les Boles.  The family will receive friends from 2:00pm-3:00pm Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Gentry Family Funeral Home in Yadkinville.  Her funeral service will follow the visitation 3:00pm Sunday at the funeral home by Rev. Judy Davis.  Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery of Jonesville.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jonesville First United Methodist Church, 311 West Main Street, Jonesville, NC  28642.  The family would like to express our gratitude to the management and staff at Vienna Village for the loving care they gave our mother.
