Mary Weatherman Whitaker

Hamptonville Mrs. Mary Weatherman Whitaker, 98, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at her home.  Mrs. Whitaker was born September 6, 1918 in Yadkin County to Thomas and Mary Jane Wilkins Weatherman.  She was a member of Swaims Baptist Church.  Mary retired from Hanes Knitting and Hugh Chatham Hospital.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitaker was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Franklin Whitaker; a son, Braxton Whitaker; four sisters, Tina Vestal, Lonnie Swaim, Annie Anthony, and Ollie Wagoner; and four brothers, Melvin, Virge, Dewey and Toby Weatherman.  She is survived by two daughters, Shelby (Bobby) Groce and Jackie (Bobby) Gough; four grandchildren, Tim (Priscilla) Groce, Sherry (Edward) Allen, Todd (Blair) Gough, and Gina (Jay) Robards; nine great grandchildren, Dusty (Kelly) Allen, Kala (Greg) Longworth, Ashley (Brendan) Garcia, J.B., Mary Beth, Grace, and Bobby Robards, and Kaitlyn and Kelsey Gough; and six great-great grandchildren, Brooklynn and Nick Allen, Alicia Joyner, Wesley Longworth, and Sophie and Xander Garcia.  A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00PM, Friday, April 21, 2017 at Gentry Family Chapel in Jonesville with Rev. Don Hudson and Josh Barnes officiating.  Burial will follow at Swaims Baptist Church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home.
