Ms. Mattie “Edith” Ray Broadway Carter, age 85, passed away November 9, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 25, 1937 in Wilkes County to the late Clyde Thomas Broadway and Mattie Electa Jenkins Broadway. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, and one sister. She is survived by her children, Diane (Steve) Dowell, Lynn (David) Huffman, Rhonda Fletcher; grandchildren, Angel Parrish, Jonathan Dowell, Jessica Harpe, Greyson Inscore, Rachelle Hegwood, Zachary Hegwood, Matt Fletcher; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one great great-great grandchild; brother, Odell (Linda) Broadway. Edith loved reading her Bible, going to church, singing, playing the guitar and music in general. She also loved tending to her potted plants and gardening. The family will receive friends, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in East Bend, Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be Monday, November 14, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Gentry Family Chapel with Pastor Jeff Wall and Pastor Lloyd Taylor Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends, Monday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Monday prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Legion Memorial Park Cemetery in Cooleemee.
