Melvin Andrew Porter

Mr. Melvin Andrew Porter, 95, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 1, 2021.  Mr. Porter was born March 25, 1926 in Yadkin County to Omar and Evelyn Campbell Porter.  He was a veteran of the US Army and was the oldest member of New Patterson Grove Faith Church where he served as senior deacon and sang in the choir.  Mr. Porter enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Porter was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Dobson; and four brothers, Gray, Chester, William Ray and Larry Eugene Porter.  He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Mattie Sue Payne Porter; children, Clara (Dennis) Moser, Melvin “Leon” Porter, Allen (Sandy) Porter, Sharon Peace, Carol Hawkins, Janice Isome, and Jackie Phinx; five grandchildren, Robin, Ricky, Natasha, David, and Nakela; six great grandchildren; a sister, Martha Phillips; and many special friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00PM, Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville with Rev. James Hunt officiating.  Mr. Porter will be available for public viewing Sunday from 8:00AM to 1:45PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Patterson Grove Faith Church Building Fund, 3432 Forbush Rd, East Bend, NC 27018.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. William Woods, Dr. Amy Franklin and the staff of the VA medical centers in Salisbury and Kernersville for the loving care provided to Mr. Porter.
