Melvin Lee Wilson, age 75, passed away Friday, September 24, 2021. He was born August 23, 1946 in Monroe County, West Virginia to the late Woodrow Willard Wilson and Ida Louise Massey. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Virginia Gayle Burns Wilson; son, Eric Lee (Susan) Wilson; grandchildren, Spencer Lee Wilson and Andrew Lance Gebe; sisters and brothers, Phyllis Ann Hansen, Lewisburg, WV; Willard Marshall Wilson, Springfield, VA; Richard Keith (Judy) Wilson, Mocksville, NC; Ida Catherine (Blaine) Smith, Wayside, WV; brother-in-law, Harold Boggess, Alderson, WV; and stepbrothers, Alvin Blankenship, Gap Mills, WV, Clark Blankenship, Richmond, VA and Doug Blankenship, Union, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Sue Boggess; sister-in-law, Betty Joyce Wilson; brother-in-law, Clark Hansen; and stepbrothers, Harold Blankenship, Ted Blankenship, and Vernon Blankenship. Melvin graduated from Greenville High School in Greenville, WV. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and later retired from Tension Envelope in Winston-Salem, NC. In his early years, he played church league fast pitch softball in Alexandria, VA. He also enjoyed football, hunting, fishing, riding horses and motorcycles, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson Spencer, who held a very special place in Grandpa’s heart. He was a self-taught guitar player. He loved singing and playing blue grass and gospel music with numerous band friends over the years at many nursing homes, churches, and family outings. Melvin was always helping his friends regardless of the task, from getting up hay to cooking. Melvin will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. A graveside service will be Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. at Sandy Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, 2930 Sandy Springs Road, Harmony, North Carolina, with Rev. David Kiser officiating.
